Yes indeed, we finally made it. It is moi, straight from Mumbai International Airport. We’re waiting for our flight to Bangkok in about 2 hours. The last few days have been hectic and I have not been getting my 8 hours sleep a night.
So here we go, after a 8 hour intercontinental flight we jump into the deep again. Mumbai here we go. I knew it was going to be busy, dirty, hot and chaotic, but nothing like this. Fuck me dead! So many people, everywhere. And like 95% of them seem like they’re just hanging out. Everyday, at the same spot. Cars, tuktuks, bikes and buses, driving like they have to prove they have the most road rage in them. And of course, dont forget to honk every 2.3 seconds.
We had a bit of a browse in the neighbourhood of the “gateway of India”, That’s where the attacks were about year ago. Nice place, but very hectic indeed. In the afternoon we took a taxi to Juhu Beach. I thought it was a very touristy place when i read about it before coming, but we were pretty much the only whities in the land. Thousands of Indians on the beach like they were waiting for the rave of the centaury to get started. But I think there was more something of a staring contest going on because we did get some looks. We sat on the beach, relaxing after a hectic day, watching the sun go down in the Arabian Sea. That lasted for about 5 minutes, till all of a sudden Jo is having henna painted on her and we’re surrounded by about 30 people all taking pictures of us with their mobiles. We’re bargaining our way out of this mess, still all in good fun. People handing their baby’s over to have their picture taken and all. It was a very bizarre experience indeed, first day of our travels started well! … we’ve turned into some what of a celebrity couple :)
